How to delete Backups.backupdb from Trash?

Hi guys,
every time I go to delete this it says it is in use because I have an external hard drive that has time machine on it.
Why does it think it is in use? It's sitting in my trash?

Is your external drive connected when you try to delete that file?

When I disconnect my hard drive the file disappears. (As in, when I drag the external hard drive to the trash / dismount point.)

Fantastic! I had to do it twice because I misread FILE in bold as actually typing file - but the person meant (See my notes on file and how to drag the filename out of trash etc).... but it worked the second time.
Pretty dangerous typing things in Terminal without really knowing what I'm doing - but I'd better learn all that stuff because one day I'm moving to Linux.
