Hello all,

I have an audio interface that uses firewire. I know that High Sierra adds a new requirement on .kext
Before I knew that, I installed an updated driver on my mac...and it ruined it. Now the app that accompanies the driver won't run, and I can't uninstall (uninstalling manually leads me to a single .kext file that I cannot remove.

The app is Universal Control by Presonus.

Any ideas on how I can delete this .kext file so I can install reinstall the driver from scratch?

Thanks a lot!

1) Backup your hard drive.
2) Erase drive.
3) Re-install High Sierra.
4) Re-install applications.
5) Copy documents from backup.

This is called the Ripley Solution; nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

no no, keep it simple! what h9826790 said: disable SIP (google this), remove the file, then re-enable SIP. much easier...

OP... also check /Library/Extensions. That is not protected by SIP and is where third party apps should install extensions. If you were earlier able to install the app without disabling SIP, that is where the extension is likely installed.

The SIP discussion got me thinking this is more likely what is going on.
