Updating 3rd-party apps usually gets rid of previous versions of that app, as confirmed by only the most current versions showing up in the Applications folder. On my M4 mac mini running Sequoia however, if I right-click a file name, a list of potential apps to open that file opens up. In that list, I’ll see multiple options for the same app showing current and sometimes one or more previous version numbers. For example, right-clicking on a *.m4v file opens up, among others, two versions of VLC, the current one and the previous one. I cannot find the actual earlier version of the app anywhere on my mac mini. This happens similarly with HandBrake, others.

How does one get rid of these references to no longer existing app versions?
