How to delete RAW files in iPhoto

I'm trying to delete some RAW files from my library but it seems like iphoto doesn't want me to! Pressing delete doesn't work; "delete from album" from the photo menu is greyed out; dragging to the trash doesn't move the photo. Also I can't get in to my library in finder to do it that way, just come upon "iPhoto library" and that's a wall. Have I protected it by accident? What can I do. Thanks in advance.
