Just wanted to point out that I noticed absolutely NO benefit in disabling dashboard.

With dashboard enabled, and 0 widgets open, there was no increase in free ram after disabling it completely.

It saves no significant amount of RAM to disable it. Closing all the widgets is good enough.

I'd consider a siginificant amount of RAM benefit being +5mb. My RAM usage actually increased by more than that after disabling dashboard; not saying that disabling it caused the RAM usage, but I will say that disabling surely did not give me any extra.

Yeah but for me, it's principle. Dashboard is something that, in my opinion, should never have been integrated w/ the OS in the first place. Let Konfab do it for those who want it. For everyone else, eh... it's kinda silly. Maybe some find it useful, but I don't. So i'm happy it is disabled.

I think dashboard is useless too. But I know many people that find it a necessary feature. It is for those people that dashboard exists.

Since dashboard consumes 0.00 cpu when it's inactive, I can think of no reason to disable it manually!

Let me explain myself:

--If you don't have an e-mail, do you erase mail.app?
--if you don't use VoIP, do you throw the VoIP utility in the trash?
--If you use Firefox, do you get rid of Safari?
--If you don't know Unix, do you delete the Terminal.app?

If not, then why must you disable dashboard? Guys, relax, you are in the Mac world. The fact that there is a useless (for you) feature in OS X doesn't mean that you should get rid of it, since it doesn't consume any CPU power when not in use.

I haven't deleted Dashboard, just stopped it from starting up at login. Just like as a Firefox user I wouldn't have Safari as a login item. I didn't delete Safari.app but I don't use it, either...

I found an easy way to diable dashboard
download OnyX
one dowloaded click the tab Apperance, then tab Dashboard & Expose
uncheck the box that say Enable Dashboard and its Widgets
then apply, and poof no more dashboard

Do You mean an other easy way to disable dashboard ?

Mitthrawnuruodo has found an easy way listed further up in the thread :)

I guess I am not normal, I like dashboard, and tend to use it. Call me a Cliché mac user if you wish, but I like bells and wistles included in the OS ;) .
