How to disable "Preview" at startup?

I like the application, but it's a bit annoying that every time you connect your iPhone with your Mac, Preview opens and starts loading your pictures automatically.

Is it possible to keep it "on click" rather than "automatic"?

Try this

start iphoto
open preferences
under general set "connecting camera opens" to "no application"

does it work ?

No it doesn't work. In iPhoto, Connecting Camera Opens to is set at "No Application". Even then as soon as I connected my iPhone, it's pictures opened in Preview.
