How to disable shutter sound when taking screen shot?

How can you turn off the shutter sound that occurs whenever you take a screenshot using the keyboard shortcuts? The answers I've found through extensive Googling include:

  • Mute
  • Disable all system sounds
  • Use Grab

all of which are not satisfactory.

You could replace the sound file with one of your choosing, including a silent one:
/System/Library/Components/CoreAudio.component/Contents/Resources/SystemSounds/system/Grab.aif
