Hi, because I couldn't find any answers or directions im posting this thread with my question here.

Im trying to make an application for myself just to learn from it. I know there are other applications doing the same but I want to write it myself. Its a app which would me allow to do a easy WHOIS lookup of domain names but having troubles to figure out how to do the WHOIS query.
Does anyone here knows how to solve this? Please let me know.

    Thanks.

Check out RFC 3912. You will need to do some TCP socket work in order to actually make the query.

Thx! This puts me in the right direction. One question: Can I send the domain names in clear text by a TCP connection on port 43?

You could always set up a server to do the WHOIS lookup and return the response in an XML format. Then have the iPhone parse that, eliminating the need to do anything beside make a simple request from the phone. Then, just parse the results using NSXMLParser.
