How to downgrade from iOS 9.1 to iOS 8.x?

To expand, Apple stops signing older versions as new come out. If you found an older version and tried to load it, it would fail the verification test that is part of the install.
No. Restore would only help if your device still had the older version installed. You can restore a backup make on 8.x if your device is still loaded with 8.x iOS.

Correct. 9.1 is your bottom at the moment and with 9.2 in published beta that won't last long.
Is there a reason you need to test on iOS 8?
100% of devices that can run iOS 8 can be upgraded to iOS 9. Basically, no devices were "left behind" this cycle. So it's not really a problem to just require iOS 9 for your app; you won't be abandoning any customers.
This is not like 7->8 where iPhone 4 users were left behind.
Yeah... Actually this is embarrassing but the project was written in swift1.2 and I wanted to demo it on ios8 phone first, before upgrading to 2.0.
God I hate how Apple doesn't let you compile in 1.2 anymore on xcode7 and push it onto ios9 device, even though ios9 can run swift1.2
get a developer account, get xcode,register you dev with your account. search the web, easy to find old signed version of iOS, hell I have kept every version for my iPad for the last 3 years, i can downgrade to any.
You can download all the old versions of iOS without having a developer account, but you won't be able to install them, regardless of whether you have an account or not. Apple is only signing 9.1 now.
What happens if somebody tries to install iOS 8.4 when it isn't signed? A friend tried this and now can't get his iPad working. Is there a fix?
Because my iPhone worked fine on 8.4. Messages and everything. I still have a backup. So if there was a way to downgrade I could fix it.
There same backup can be loaded onto
iOS 9 and should work the same way. If it doesn't, then perhaps something is wrong with the backup (and it likely would have similar issues being used with iOS 8).
Usually I'd agree sir. In this instance I've updated my iPad. And used the iPad backup and all my messages are there. Use the iPad back up on my iPhone, and again nothing! Or would it not bring up the messages from my iPad backup? Desperate for a fix. Apple were useless on the phone
I've saved my SHSH blobs. When i got my replacement it was running 8.4.1. Have you saved your SHSH blobs? Do they work on other devices another replacement device?
