OTA update should work to get to .11. You'll need a OS 9 system folder for classic. Look in the Garden for one.
I'm sorry, I'm really new to this. What does OTA stand for?

I meant use Software Update.
It will not update past .11 or give you 10.5Oh just straight through the computer? Do I need to worry about it updating it too far? I need it to stay in Tiger.
Do I do that in the same way that I installed 10.4.6 (burn to a disk and install) or is there a better way to do it? I've seen a few people mention a way to do it with a usb drive, but I haven't found more detailed how-to on how that works.
Also, does this update include the things that will enable classic or will I have to do that seperatly?
Classic will be surprisingly simple to get working. All you need is to copy an OS 9 System Folder from just about anywhere. Nothing to install, just copy a System Folder to the root of the hard drive.
You don't need to boot from the disk image, so putting the image itself on a flash drive will work just fine.Do I do that in the same way that I installed 10.4.6 (burn to a disk and install) or is there a better way to do it? That sounds really easy! It looks like i'm closer that I thought to being able to play some games!

Turns out my wifi was working the whole time and it just wouldn't load any web pages because it couldn't "establish a secure connection". But software update was working fine so I am now fully updated! And as a bonus, safari is loading webpages now so i should be able to get onto Macintosh garden to get what i need for classic!
The root of a drive is always the beginning. Open the hard drive on the desktop and the very first thing you see is the root.Ok so I think I found the right thing on Macintosh garden for classic. I downloaded the second file from this page. https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mac-os-922-system-folders
It dowloaded as a .sit file so hopefully that is the right thing. Now I feel silly asking this, but how do I find the root of the hard drive in tiger so that I can put this file there?
I apologise for putting this out here, but if your main use for Classic is games, then Jaguar's implementation is much better than Tiger's. Jag won't run on an A1139 tho.
Thanks for the tip! I needed tiger to run a few games specifically, but I'm curious why you're saying jaguar is better overall? I'm always up for learning something new!
I don't think that's a retail disk - it says CPU drop-in disk. It's likely an upgrade over 10.3.x Might not work like a retail disk.OK, that's a retail disk.
