    1. Download Google Earth
    2. Open maps.google.com and get the map on screen that you want to save.
    3. Click on the Link in the upper right of Map titled 'View in Google Earth'
    4. Save the map to a filename/directory on your computer.
    5. Just open the saved file to view.

P.S. - You can also save & import someone's shared Public map into your own online 'My Maps' this way.

Not really what the OP was asking for help with.

To the OP - I don't believe MapKit supports this and as far as I'm aware it would be against the Google Maps terms of service to store the map tiles and use them offline or indeed, through any means other than through the published API.

See the FAQ and section 5.3 of the Maps terms of service.

If you must have offline maps, you may be able to use Open StreetMap which has a much more liberal license. You may need to roll your own mapping code though as I'm not aware of a way of integrating your own maps with MapKit (although I sure I remember Apple mentioning something about this).
