HomePod how to factory reset a HomePod mini and install the current OS

Had two new HomePod mini delivered today
one setup normally the other went into a download loop for 40 mins

so called apple
there solution was plug in Into a Mac , open finder , click on the home pod and select form the pop up restore the home pod takes about 20 mins to DL extract verify update

worked and completely solved the problem

yes but as I said this was a new HomePod and I could not get it set up all it did was try to download the update . I did do the unplug plugin and press the top for 10 sec . but that did not solve it it went into the same loop
the reset command it home app only is available when the HomePod is fully setup

but the method I outlined is the same as putting a phone/ AS Mac in DFU mode it replaces the firmware downloads the OS therefore its a complete wipe to factory baseline
