I've been there. I think from the time I was 14 'til 19 or 20 I was rather depressed, most of the time I did not even notice it. I ended up going through some really tough times and some friends and family pass away and I think that was what helped me snap out of it. I realized that these things that made me feel bad were things that I had no control over what so ever. I started to focus on the things that I enjoyed that I did have control over. For me it was music, I started writing a lot of music and that really helped. I stayed away for the prescription drugs, they do more harm then good. I also watched myself around booze and other drugs. I did not want to get trapped into that mess. Only drinking when I was feeling good, and not doing it to feel good.
It real can be hard to take others advice as what works for some does not work for everyone. Just remember though that many many people are going through the same thing, having a close personal friend you can talk with when feeling down is always the best thing.
Hope you can find something that helps you, and if nothing else know that you have a Mac
