Apple changed to random serial numbers a while ago. The public can no longer decode the date.
The only time the manufacture date is available is before the first charge. The battery will show a "last charged" date, which is the date of assembly.

Yea, I’ve read that. They changed it in 2021. Your comment is the first time I’m reading that it doesn’t work anymore at all tho. Internet is still full of ways how it should work. Thanks anyways.
You best choice would be using Apple' official service coverage tool. It doesn't matter if there is Apple Care or not. Last year, I used the tool to find the manufactoring date of an old trash can MacPro I bought from eBay.

It only gives you purchase date, not manufacturing date.
Right. Since the history is from Apple, it's like the first hand purchase (except for refurbished). That should give you a rough estimation on the manufactoring date. It's more accurate for BTO orders.

Yes, it really depends on a number of factors, such as how quickly the retailer is moving stock.
I bought a M4 MBA from Apple Store in August and the last charge date was April. I've seen units 8-10 months old before.

Coconut gives you the manufacturing date of the battery. This might give you an idea about the production date.

It's been encrypted and hidden from Coconut a long time ago, around when Apple started randomizing serial numbers.

Way too long to recall, but definitely above 50% and closer to 80%. Apple wants the customer to enjoy the unboxing experience and transfer data from their old Mac, not spend time charging it.
If you Mac came with, 0%, it means permanent battery damage. Old stock for sure.
According to the macOS version released within that time, I did the calculation. it’s 8 months old when I bought it.
But coconut battery said it’s 4 months old.
Which one is real?
Yes. It's my understanding that Apple changed their process a few years which results in not being able to accurately determine the production date. I've tried a lot of different ways and coconut battery is definitely wrong.
did you ask Apple how to determine the production date ?? Like email them
