I have been looking for a fix but none of them seemed viable, until I myself found out, not sure if this has been discovered yet , so Ill post it here.
Basically you need to take off the trackpad cable, and at the bottom end of it, where the gold plated connector is, u need to add a piece of any thicker tape on the other side of the gold plated connector, this way, the cable makes enough of a connection with the connector, and it will begin to work again. Reason for this failure is a design fault, where the connector gets looser and the gap gets taller, so the cable no longer makes connection.
I have done this fix on both the 13 inch and 15 inch 2015 macbook pros with the same issue, and it worked.
