is that the old modem icon? if so, try command-dragging it off the menubar..

It's a modem icon in the menu bar. You should be able to remove it in the preferences pane.

or just hold the command key and drag it off the menubar..

To remove:

System Preferences - Network - Internal Modem or similar name on the left pane - Untick "Show modem status in menu bar".
