I find after a while of use the machine is warming up. I deliberately got the 2.0ghz model because I wanted it to run as cool as possible.

I would like to have the fans run constantly at a lower RPM e.g. 3k.

I have tried SMCFanControl but it does not force the fan on on this machine (although it worked on my prior 2015 Macbook pro 13)

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

I got a rMBP 2015 i5 8GB July '15 and on using Safari while resting on my lap and my lap was getting uncomfortably hot.

No other programs were running.

I rang apple support and he said 'that is not right, I wouldn't want that, take it back and get a brand new one' (less than a week old).
So that seems to be a good 'test'
I guess thats why they are called 'laptops'.

And, likely why you won't find Apple using the word "laptop"
'tis a notebook, or occasionally, a portable.

Apple does mention using it on a lap:
If your MacBook Pro is on your lap and gets uncomfortably warm, remove it from your lap and place it on a stable, well-ventilated work surface. Take special care if you have a physical condition that affects your ability to detect heat against the body.

So, to paraphrase (if I am allowed :D ) : If it is uncomfortably warm to you, don't use it on your lap, make sure it is well-ventilated, on a stable work surface.

Use MacsFanControl http://www.crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control

I'm sorry but if the rMBP is on your lap and you are only using Safari - vents not blocked - trousers on - no medical condidion that would prevent detection of heat and causing discomfort then return device.

Summary

• from switch on ie rMBP 'cold'
• no medical condidion
• air vents not blocked in any way
• user wearing trousers ie fabric like denim.
• Safari only - all other programs closed

If the underneath of the rMBP is significantly warm /very warm or hot to touch and or causing discomfort to lap after say 15 mins has lapsed

Return.
