macOS how to get a file deleted after conversion?

hello
I m converting one avi file to mov file using.But i m not able to delete that avi file ,i tried all options like closing of avi etc.
Here is psuedocode:

InitializeQTML(0L);
EnterMovies();
ConvertFileToMovieFile();
OpenMovieFile
NewMovieFromFile
CloseMovieFile(myRefNum);
ExitMovies();
TerminateQTML();//if i use terminate then it is deleting avi file but then i m not able to open mov file.says error 2000.
