when i go into finder and look at my external hdd for example or documents i like all the files and folders to be quite large so i set this using the options in view - show view options - i then set the settings to default.

however when i click out of that particular folder none of the other files of folders have changed to my desired size settings?

i am missing something here, surely a setting must exist for what i need.

i just want all files and folders to open the same size without me having to reset them every time i go into a new directory.

thanks

I've found that any Finder Windows that I have changed through Show View Options will not be affected by clicking Use Defaults. However, any folder that has not been changed should assume the defaults selected for its enclosing folder. So go all the way up to the top level and do that, then manually reset the ones that don't comply.

I haven't had to mess with this for several OS updates, so things might have changed with the later versions.

The Finder has always been a bit tricky....to get set to a specific list of settings. This used to work, and also explains a bit the mechanics of the saved preferences. Still does as far as I know ( but I have not tried it in years).

The trick is that the defaults do not over-ride existing folders...which is not obvious.
