Seems like the very first reply basically mentions that.
The first comment was speculation, posted before the release of the iPhone X. As are all messages in this thread before Lmastro's question.

No it wasn’t speculation, please read again.
Yup. Finally been confirmed by Jonathan Morrison at minute 4:19 on his unboxing video (same as what most have stated here).

This is correct - I saw it being done in one of the "iphone x experience" reviews that have come out within the last day or so.

While it might have been seen as speculation it was correct and simple to try. Not to mention that various other comments had more to them as well, like an actual video showing how it works, which is certainly not speculation and more of confirmation.

I apologize, I must have missed the comments which showed videos. Sorry.

When I was playing with an X at the Apple Store last week, I just could not figure out how to launch the app switcher from the springboard... no matter how slowly/deliberately I swiped up from bottom, it would just bounce back to the first homescreen (the behavior being discussed here). An employee showed me how he sort of draws a curly "bowtie" shape with his thumb, starting in the lower-left corner, to launch the switcher... I tried that a few times, but it still didn't work. I finally put the phone down and walked away with a sore thumb, LOL.

There's a few ways to invoke it, the two I use (one of these has a left vs. right variant):

Slide up from the button, like to close an app/return to home, but pause, for a second, you'll get the haptic tap, release.

Alternately, if you like a continuous movement, without a pause, place your thumb at the bottom right corner, slide diagonally towards the volume buttons (just about anywhere on the opposite left edge, above the dock), when you hit the edge, you'll get the tap, done. The variant is simple the same move but from the lower left corner to the right edge.

Yeah the slide up and pause just would not work, fsr. The other method sounds similar to what the guy was showing me. I'm sure you get the hang of it once you own the phone, but I wasn't keen on all that swiping...

Perhaps something was off with the display model or something like that? I played around with the X for maybe about a minute or so at a local store and was able to invoke the app switcher fairly easily using a variety of methods (swipe straight up from the bottom, curved swipe to the right, and an upside down L swipe to the right), all worked fairly well and on the first try basically.

Ok, as I'm someone who has loads of apps scattered over around 10 pages on my iPhone, what's the quickest way to get back to the main (first) homescreen when on page 10 let's say (on the iPhone X)?
I'd hate to think that I'd have to swipe through 10 pages when looking at an app on my last page to get back to page one.

Of course previously we'd all be able to do such task when pressing the home button once.

Any ideas?

try this...
1. Try going to page 10 (or the last page) of your screens
2. From the bottom swipe up

--> To go to the Home screen at any time, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.

It is just a swipe up from the bottom of the screen and will return you to your main home screen
