Hi,

I'm a new Mac user and when I bought my MacBook it didn't came with any Disk containing Mac software. PC's have Windows disks in the boxes in case you need to reinstall it by some reason...but I couldn't find any disk like that in my Apple laptop box.
Could someone please let me know if I just lost the disk or if I can get it online at the apple site or something.

Thanks in advance
J.

There were no gray discs?

I'd call Apple and ask them for a complimentary set, otherwise, they are ~$35.

There should be a gray box with two things inside of it, a book titled "Everything about your mac" that tells you how to set it up. and a sleeve titled "Everything Else" inside that sleeve will be two gray DVDs. Those are the install dvds.

yeah, if it's a new computer, there should be 2 grey DVDs somewhere in there ( I hope you didn't rip out the laptop and throw the box away lol)

The grey DVDs are the installation of Mac OS X, and all the drivers specifically formatted for your computer. It should also contain iLife which comes with OS X.

as for windows, it is my experience that they don't ship any CDs or DVDs to prevent piracy and screw you over on fresh installations incase something goes wrong.

Windows PCs tend to put the 'recovery' disk into a separate partition on the hard disk. This is fine until your hard disk dies and you're left with no way to recover.

Did you buy your Mac from the Apple store or somewhere else?

Thank you all for the reply...I got my Mac in a Apple store.. and I do remember a grey box now that you mention it...but since I've moved country and then city since I got the laptop I think I just lost track of the box

I will look for it more carefully now that I know what I'm looking for.....thanks a lot!!
