This may be a longshot:

I'm looking to purchase a 15" macbook pro from an apple store in Danbury, CT. I'm trying to save as much money as possible, and would love to ask any Apple employee if they would be willing to extend their discount to me for my purchase. Does anyone know of a forum for this type of connection-making, or does this seem to be overstepping boundaries? Thanks for everyone's feedback!

I doubt any Apple employee would sacrifice his or her career for just one customer. If you want to save money, take a look at refurb store

Sir:

Apple store employees are allowed a certain number of discounts to give to friends and family in one calendar year. Giving this discount doesn't put thier job in jeopardy.

I'm curious how a total stranger on an internet forum qualifies as a friend or family!

But you are a total stranger. Furthermore, why would someone use his discount because of you? That's unfair to all other buyers and yes, he/she might get fired.

To be direct: yes, it is a longshot, no there is no forum for that, yes you are overstepping boundaries by asking, and it is significantly statistically unlikely that you will find anyone willing to just give you their discount.

Done.

Thank you, jackiecanev2!

do the salespeople in apple stores get the same discounts as those working for corporate in cupertino?

Depends on what's your job in Cupertino. A cleaner might not even get discount but people working in the high-end get Apple stuff for free

hes a friend o my GFs cousin. so i suppose it wouldnt b that bad plus id prob just given him a £100 for doing it for me

Everybody in the post sounds like they've gotten their panties twisted.

OP, it doesn't hurt to try, and since they're only allowed 3 friend and family discounts, I'm pretty sure they can use them any way they please. That's kinda the point. I don't think Apple Employees work off of commission, but maybe you'll luck out and find one who's in need of making a sale.

The worst that can happen is that they say no. It's not like they're going to deny you of your $1000+ purchase.

To everyone else: I thought the point of this board was to help people and not mock them? There's a difference between tough love and being an internet douche.

they get 3 family and friends discounts a year for computers at 15% off, they are about to expire for the year so for the employees that havent used them if you make friends easily you might be lucky. However you'd have to put the money on a gift card because they have to order it online and have it sent to you, also if you get applecare at the time of purchase it's also discounted but i'm not sure the percentage off. Basically the main rules are you can't order more than 3 and the person who you get it for has to have it for a year before selling it. So if you know anyone who works at any Apple store they can do it for you This is also the only way to get the discount if you customize it all. Other thing to remember that unless it's DOA/defective you can't return it if you change your mind.

Don't the apple store folk get paid by some sort of commission? (I honestly don't know). If they do get paid by commission their performance would suffer a bit.

Plus its a friends and family discount, ideally to be used for friends and family. It seems kinda silly to ask a person working in retail to use their own personal employee benefits to help out a customer, its just unprofessional. I kinda see it like asking a restaurant employee using their "discounted meal of the shift" on a patron who asks for it... thats just silly . I know we are a bunch of fanboys but common, Apple isn't going to bend over backwards to make us happy (remember the introduction of the glossy screens ).

So yeah, I suppose people here will be "internet bullies" if someone asks a silly question. Its not like we are attacking the OP, we are just attacking his question, and motives for asking it.

On a serious note, OP if you are pressed for cash check out the refurb store, there are some pretty good deals over there. The deals in the refurb store rival "friends and family" discounts at times.

A guy I go to the gym with works at JR and he gave me his card. Now I get a discount on everything I buy from there saying I know him :D

Nonetheless, the question is in poor taste and inappropriate. You seem,
by the nature of this request, to be exceedingly self centered.

i don't think it's poor taste and I think it's only slightly self centered. And it's never inappropriate to try to save money. (I asked to get the black friday rebate in a electronics store weeks after black friday and the manager gave me the rebate. What's wrong with that?)

Best chances are IMHO going to your local Apple store at off hours when no other customers are there and just ask an employee that looks friendly. Best chances are geniusses. Maybe they have discounts left for this year and are in x-mas mood. But as you say it's a long shot because the employees are not allowed to accept any kickback from your savings. Going through an anonymus website is not going to work. You have a higher chance to team up with a student to get an (illegitimate) edu discount.

Best ways to get Apple discounts:

1. Online sales, when available (rare)
2. Buy a refurb, if you see one you like
3. Educational discount, if you qualify (or if you are willing to lie)
4. If you know a Best Buy, Future Shop, etc. employee who will give you a discount
5. If you know an Apple employee who will give you a discount

The OP's question has a relatively low chance of success, but it's worth a try. If I worked for Apple and had 3 friends and family discount codes, I might well be willing to part with one that would end up going unused anyway. (Sadly, I don't, so I have to rely on #2 and #4).
