So...what's in it for the Apple employee? They're under no obligation to use their discount. As far as I know, they are neither rewarded nor penalized for failing to use any or all of their discounts. So why would he or she share it with you?

But if you still think you're smarter than everyone else, go up to the next Apple employee you see and ask to use his discount. See where that gets you!

Good luck.

well, my GF talked herself three times out of a traffic ticket (in court). so it seems that some are able to pull off things.

FYI, Apple is finally starting to crack down on employee purchases. Employees are no longer able to login to the EPP store with anyone else's login but their own. I used to just be able to give my guy my AppleID and password and tell him what to order and I'd get my 25%, but that's no longer the case. You have to give them all your personal info, billing address, credit card, etc for them to purchase a Mac at discount for you. It's about time, but it makes it far more difficult and next to impossible for a far-out poster like yourself, Katt505, to get a shot at an employee discount. Nice try though...I do hear Apple is hiring however.

are you a guy or girl OP...if you are a girl...i can arrange something for an employee discount.

Apple employees get NO commission for their sales. To some employees its worth using up their 3 discounts to get the most out of Apple. The only thing that hurts them is when you don't buy applecare, mobile me, onetoone and those dont count using the discount.

Don't the apple store folk get paid by some sort of commission? (I honestly don't know). If they do get paid by commission their performance would suffer a bit.

Plus its a friends and family discount, ideally to be used for friends and family. It seems kinda silly to ask a person working in retail to use their own personal employee benefits to help out a customer, its just unprofessional. I kinda see it like asking a restaurant employee using their "discounted meal of the shift" on a patron who asks for it... thats just silly . I know we are a bunch of fanboys but common, Apple isn't going to bend over backwards to make us happy (remember the introduction of the glossy screens ).

So yeah, I suppose people here will be "internet bullies" if someone asks a silly question. Its not like we are attacking the OP, we are just attacking his question, and motives for asking it.

On a serious note, OP if you are pressed for cash check out the refurb store, there are some pretty good deals over there. The deals in the refurb store rival "friends and family" discounts at times.

I had a lady ask to use my discount once...

she didn't get it.

It's actually quite rude to be like "Hey you work at Apple, and I know you get a discount... I know you have no clue who I am, but will you let me use your discount?"

The question to ask is why does apple extend this discount?

Because it is an employee benefit! These days employees need all the benefits they can get from an employer- and it is quite nice of Apple to have this option of friends a family discount.

I believe the OP needs to just suck it up and buy a computer like everyone else- shop around, buy refurbished, whatever, but don't ask someone to do something dishonest. It sounds like it is a friends and family discount and the OP are neither (as many others have said)- so click away on the web and find your best deal on a Mac.

OH yeah, next time you are out and about stop by the golden arches and ask for one of these- cause I heard they get them for free.....as a benefit ya know!;)

Sell your body to science...

...and if its that bad, they'll pay you just to go away!

Maybe you should have donated a liver to a guy named ... okay going too far.

why not just use a student discount. Go to apple.com, click on the education discount link, and then choose a school. I mean if you are going to try to get someone who works at Apple to get you a discount (which I AM SURE they never get asked that ), why not just fake being a student.

You still get a good sized discount, depending on what you buy. I got $20 off my router a few days ago, and $150 off of AC for my MBP, but I showed them my student ID and such.

Since when? Unless it was a change that just happened within the last month, you can order a computer with either the personal 25% discount, or 15% friends and family regardless of the billing and shipping address. The only catch is that you have to login to a computer (back of house) and place the order in-store.

And yes, Apple says that you only get one 25% and three 15%, but that does not stop you from lets say using more than what you're allotted.

That's no longer the case my friend. My friend in Cupertino gave me the lowdown last week when he placed an order for me. So that's where my info is coming from.

Hi, for those that know, my sister in law (Apple employee) just bought an iMac for me (I pay though ...;) ) at her 25% off discount (she was not going to use it for herself this year).

My question is, do I need to register the computer under her name, including the AppleCare or once it's been bought Apple has nothing to do with it?

Thanks.

No, you can register it under your name. I am sure Apple employees sometimes use their discounts to buy others stuff. Just register it under your name, as well as the AC.

As an FYI to everyone:

-There's no in-store employee discount. Employees have to order through the Employee Purchase Program, which is a subset of the online Apple Store. The purchased computer is shipped like any online purchase and not picked up in-store.

-There is no commission at the Apple Store. You do get a pat on the back for number of units sold and percentage AppleCare/MobileMe sold compared to units sold, but no bonuses or commissions.

-Anything bought through the EPP does not count toward the total count of computers sold for an employee.

-Employees are only given one 25% discount per year on a computer. However, there is nothing built into the purchasing system to stop someone from buying more than one computer in the year with the discount, even if always logged into their own employee Apple ID. The only thing that stops most employees is the fear that Apple will take notice that you're abusing the discount and fire you, which is unlikely to happen with two or three purchases spread throughout the year.

I hope this clears some misconceptions up.

The best way to get a discount is to go to a few different stores and get each one to beat the other's price. And yes, a small amount of truth bending and exaggeration may be in order. When someone tells you they are selling it to you for or below cost price, they are almost certainly lying.

By going to a few different stores, and getting prices on business cards, I got my macbook pro for $100 less than the student discount price from Dick Smith's (I am a student, but they didn't really care either way) with a free Targus laptop backpack, and 3 years of Dick Smith warranty. Now, you gotta admit, that's a damn good deal.

Sales and discounts are usually a waste of time. You can always get a better price if you're willing to work a little for it.
