How to get my photos back?

Activated my new 8+ on launch day and did a iCloud restore. After a full day the restore was still pending. I canceled it but everything appears to be just fine, except my photos.

I have horrible WiFi at home. I have about 1K photos in iCloud. My photo library is empty and it’s been 3 days. It’s merely impossible to not take my phone with me when I leave the home, therefore I don’t think my phone will ever get a chance to download all the photos from iCloud.

Is there a remedy for this? I’ve debated storing all the photos on an external drive and starting fresh on all my devices.

When you hit the photos app it should have a pop up saying use icloud library and you would click that big blue button and it would sync in no time. Must be a bug with ios, maybe try re-wiping your phone?

I have iCloud Photo Library enabled. All my settings carried over from the restore. All my other devices have the photos.

Take a picture and see if that doesn’t trigger your other photos showing.

You could go to an Apple store and use their WiFi?! Lol

Take a few photos so it triggers the uploads. Then go over to the photo tab on the bottom left inside the photo app. All the way to bottom it should say updating or update paused. Click on resume and it should update your library.

Thanks! It was paused. I get a message it will resume for an hour before going back to power saver mode.

This is probably a stupid question but have you tried turning the phone off and back on? I only ask because I had the exact same problem too. My internet service sucks and is super slow so I figured it would take a long time for all my pictures to come over. I waited Friday evening to Saturday evening and still nothing. I turned the phone off and once it came back on, my pictures starting loading! You’ve probably already tried it but I did it mentioned. If you have, sorry. I hope you get your pictures back. I know the feeling, I was worried about mine.

You could download them all from iCloud.com on a computer and then transfer them to your phone via iTunes

Have you taken a look at the settings and compared them with your previous iPhone? I mean, I changed it so that everything matched exactly on my iPhone 8 Plus. Later that day, after having it charged for a while, all my photos and videos were there.

i would try this:
1. sign out of icloud account.
2. reboot.
3. sign in to icloud account.

I did this last night before I went to bed. I woke up this morning and all my photos were on my phone!

Thank you everybody for your help and suggestions. I am glad I did not have to reset my phone and start over.
