Maybe this happened with iOS11? I'm trying to get the few playlists back. Top 25 Most Played is the most important one.

Does anybody know if this is possible?

You can create a new iTunes library, it then will include those default playlists, including the one that you want. You can then edit the playlist and see how apple sets each criteria, and do the same one on your current library. Plus, judging by the name, you can do one yourself. It is not that hard than you might think.

How do I do this?

Just make new Smart Playlists in iTunes. The three main default ones are/were:

It's easy to creat playlists in iTunes. how do you get them in iPhone x is still not clear.

If you connect iPhone to Mac and want to sync music. Either the library on mac or iPhone will be destroyed (they are different libraries).

How frustrating that we don't get smart playlist updates via iCloud. Its 2018...

There wouldn't be any problems if one owns 1 mac + phone. When you have multiple macs and iPhone + iPad is just one mess..
