For fun I just got a quote for my Verizon iPhone 6 64GB from Gazelle and it's more than any other carrier models including the unlocked version. The largest difference was between AT&T ($311) and Verizon ($401). Although I won't be selling my iPhone I'm glad I bought the Verizon version to use on TMo network rather than buying a TMo or unlocked version. :)

Trade in values are probably what birthed programs like next, edge, and jump, to be honest. By the time you're ready for s new phone the buyout is right around the traffic, maybe slightly less. I could "makes $30 by trading/selling or I can just dump it at my carrier and get the newer device in wanting.

I dunno have the last payment I'll owe under $400 and I'm seeing them going on eBay for almost $700.....still some money to be made. But I prefer craigslist/cash to eBay. Don't need no shananigans

The problem with craigslist is having to meet some stranger in person, with the associated risks and potential hassles thereof.
Where are you meeting them, in a dark alley? Something like a Barnes & Noble should be quite safe.

Most money back, try www.usell.com

Those guys were quick and very easy. Sold my water damaged/non functional iPhone 6 for $207 and my fair condition iPhone 4S for $60. I shopped around all the other competitors like Gazelle, but Usell by far offered the most money for my old or damaged devices.

What wrong with iPhone 6 (which was so awesome not long before)?

This trade in mentality must stop. Apple is supporting these iPhones 4 years with iOS updates, and if you pay $650 and more, it is better to keep it for at least two years...
I've been complaining about mine for 11 months, now. Wifi is atrocious, it's like it's the first wifi device Apple ever made. I can set it next to my iPad, watch the i6's wifi symbol jump from 4 bars to 1, to 0, back to 4...meanwhile the iPad's is rock solid at 4. Considering I am on Tmobile and need wifi calling half the time, it doesn't even work as a phone for large portions of my day. Got my original replaced by Apple earlier this year when the phone eventually simply stopped accessing the internet at all. 2nd phone appears on the same path.

Basically been holding my breath for next week. Hopefully the 6s will improve.

Oh, and yes, it's too fragile.

I would be very caution of eBay, as you can get severely burned as a seller. FeeBay offers zero actual protection to the seller.

I have a 5s with a few small dents and dings with light use scratches, but other than that it's fine, no cracked screen, buttons work, etc. There are no options for this on those sites. It goes from "good" (light scratches) to "broken". I guess I just choose "good" and have them give me a real price when I send it in?

I've used Gazelle and Amazon before. Amazon got me a better price last time.

OR.... One of you could donate your 5C or 5S to me.... (heck, id even take a 5) I don't want all of the phones... just one (i'm not some greedy person). The truth is I NEED to get away from Android. I regret ever trying a different mobile OS. If anyone is feeling kind enough to want to help me out, please let me know. I have T-Mobile.

Has anyone sold an iPhone on Craigslist? If so, what was your experience like?

Many people on here have, if you read all of the comments.

Basically it can be a miserable experience, unless you price the phone to sell quickly. If you are trying to get fair value for the device, you will receive tons of emails from people who have no interest in buying your phone. For example:

"Is it still available" and you will reply "Yes" and then never hear from them again. You will get about 50 of these.

"What is the lowest price you will take" as their very first email to you and you will reply "what is the most you are willing to pay?" and you will never hear from them again. You will get about 15 of these.

"Does it have XXXX?" where XXX is clearly stated in the listing and you will reply "yes, as I said in the listing it has XXX" and you will never hear from them again. You will get about 10 of these.

"I am interested in your phone, will you take XXX?" where XXX is either insultingly lower than you are asking or a fair offer. You will get about 10 of these, but only a few you will actually consider.

Eventually you will get a buyer that is willing to offer you a fair amount of money. I only agree to sell to and meet buyers that are able to form complete and coherent sentences, carry on a conversation, voice verify (for larger transactions), and are ok with the price (meaning they aren't going to offer me $200 less in person hoping I take it since I made the trip). Also, cash only of course.

When you agree to meet, only agree to meet in a public place. I always choose a Starbucks and arrive 15 min early to get a drink and watch the buyer arrive. This way I can see what type of vehicle they driver (and plate number for larger transactions) and anything suspicious (like when they show up with 2 or 3 other people).

When they come in I shake hands and ask to see the money before showing them the device. Most thieves probably don't actually bring the cash to the deal. Once I see the money, I let them touch and review the device and then make the exchange. If you are not familiar with currency, you may wish to have a counterfeit pen available to verify the bills. I worked at a bank for a while, so I am able to tell fake bills by touch alone.

Once it is all said and done, you have the potential to make more than on eBay or other services, but you will have spent a lot of "admin" time dealing with the emails and stupid people. I also listed my device on eBay for more money (enough to cover the eBay and PayPal fees and asked buyer to cover shipping) to make sure that regardless of where I sold it I would end up with the same net amount.

Good lord. Did auctions jump up that high? I bailed the eff out of eBay years ago becausebtheybwere taking too large a cut and I'm easily able to resell things that interest me elsewhere. But Jesus. 20%?!

If you add a reserve they charge even more on the auctions. I believe they were going to charge me another $14 to add a reserve of $550 on my 6+.

Let me remind everyone that this is also a great time to find that family member or friend who is stuck with a crap phone, and make their day with the best early Christmas present ever.

If you're not really hurting for money and want to do some good, giving your old phone to someone you care about when you upgrade is a wonderful thing. :) I just did this with my previous iPhone 5 myself.

This right here!, Not to mention I am looking 1 for my friend lol, he has been going through hard times and can't afford a iPhone (currently on a S3 thats falling apart) so if anyone generous enough to sell to one of these corporations, help us out instead, will match the price and also wait until you get your device, only looking for a 64GB Unlocked or Verizon 6/6+ so it lasts 3-4 years for em.

Using their fee calculator, they take 10% for auctions and buy it now. And don't forget PayPal's own fees. Really not as good as it may sound.

from the average consumer eBay takes almost 15% (eBay + PayPal Fee's) + Shipping you have to pay out of your pocket. Plus the chance of the buyer ripping you off with some claim later + PayPal and ebay taking the buyers side.

In order to sell it on eBay one must 1) be ok with the fee's, 2) Document / Record the package being packed, shipped etc on video / photo's to really protect them self as scammers know how to game the nice eBay and Paypal people / system.

I think they still print them for some third world countries who can't afford the Internet.

If you would open your eyes, you would see newspapers everywhere. However, they are reduced in size due mainly to the revenue loss of their classified ads which craigslist zapped with a silver dagger through their hearts.

No matter what you think, this loss of readership has had a great impact on reducing the limited intelligence of the LOW information voter. NO online newspaper comes close to replacing yesteryear's local newspaper unless it is a pay for view newspaper such as the NY Times or the WSJ.

Historically this is always the case before an iPhone launch. If you're able to dump your device before the next one hits stores you're golden. Once the s series is out you won't be fetching $700.

I usually use iCracked as they can send someone out to give you $ on the spot which is really great for upgrading and saves the headache of sending it off and waiting for a check. www.icracked.com

I used their calculator looks like this is their current pricing for maxed out devices in great condition.

iPhone 6 Plus ATT: ~ $450
iPhone 6 Plus VZW: ~ $480
iPhone 6 ATT ~ $420
iPhone 6 VZW ~ $450

Looks like there's only a $20 difference for each capacity for the Verizon/unlocked model... Not a good deal.

Online newspaper? You mean a news website don't you? You speak like someone out of touch with modern technology, which is the class of people who still do read newspapers. You can educate yourself far better online. The fact is, they can post just as much online as they can print in offline form, but for cheaper. Low information voters will always be low information voters. The existence of a newspaper doesn't help that in any way. There is MORE information online that in any newspaper ever invented by man. He who wishes to educate himself, can do so.

I used to deal with Gazelle but lately they've been pretty suspect. I received a quote for 200.00 for an ATT 5s. I sent it in and a few days later received an email saying my offer has been revised since the screen is cracked. The best they can offer is 60.00. I said no way, please send it back. When I received my phone, it was perfect. Zero cracks on the glass. Since then my opinion of them has changed and I say stay away.

Interesting thing I've seen on eBay (since I'm selling a 6 and a 6 Plus) is that the 6 Plus's are not holding their extra $100 when reselling them (i.e. the 6 Plus's are for the most part, selling for what the smaller 6's are selling for). :(

yeah thats pretty high, which is why a lot people call it feeBay. :(

Don't do auctions on eBay, if your selling they're margin is (~20%), choose to sell as a "Buy It Now" only and eBay's cut goes down to 10% - most folks don't know this. With Buy It Now you can also set it so the person can't "Buy It Now" unless they have completely paid for it.

This is a really helpful discussion - I have an iPhone 5 (ok, stop laughing) that I'll like to sell, though obviously I can't do it until I get a new phone. 64gb, very good shape with respect to screen, overall structure, buttons, etc. The battery...well, it's not new, that's for sure. Before this article, I had researched many of the sellers out there; I've never sold electronics, and I really don't know how to price what I have, or I'd go the swappa route. It would be simplest to do Verizon, obviously, and just apply it to the new phone (I'm off contract, which would have gotten me more money in the old days, but at this point, I doubt they'd give me any benefits.)

I want to be fair with the pricing and not overstate - but how do I describe the battery? It's certainly not as strong as it used to be.

But again, helpful conversation from all of you, though I still don't know what to do!

I went with Gazelle this time around. They offered $421 for my 128 GB Verizon iPhone 6. I usually get my phone replaced about a month before the new iPhone comes out an sell it for at least the amount I paid for it, but I didn't feel like going through all of that this yr. Since I've never sold one that has cosmetic damage, I'd like to know if you guys think I can get more for it. It has a few minor scratches on the back and a barely noticeable blemish on the side by the volume rocker. What do you guys think?

https://swappa.com is my go to site the last few years

Thank you so much for suggesting this. I was able to sell an iPhone 5S and my apple watch sport within a day, got paid the same day, and was able to mail
It out and they only charged me $20 fee combined, EBay would have been over $100 in fees.
