so far it has escaped me.?? --would anyone guess the time machine disk has to be larger than the 2tb internal system disk that came with the 2017 5k?-- I since have reloaded it to a one tb ext ssd and boot and run from that??--seems there are lots of problems with ventura and tm and so far lots of swing a dead car over your head hocus hocus --none of have worked for me...thank you

I'm not understanding exactly what you're getting at. What did you reload onto a 1 TB drive, the system or TM? If your internal drive is 2 TB, & is reasonably full, you can't expect 1TB to handle the backup!

I have a 2017 27" iMac in which I installed 2 x 1TB internal SSD's and have a 4TB external drive for TM. The TM drive has used 3.35TB, while the 2 internal drives have only used a total of 863 TB. It all depends how full your internal drive is and how long you want TM to keep the snapshots; no different than the earlier OS's to Ventura. I've had no issues with Ventura, so don't know why you're swinging dead cars

Yes. It should be at least 4 TB backing up a 2 TB internal drive. As above the more space you have the longer period is covered with backups. In my case I backup ~2 TB to 6 TB TM volumes which gives me close to a year of backups.

Be sure your 3-2-1 backup strategy has just one TM backup as they tend to fail.

So what is the problem? Need a detailed description of what you did and how it fails.
