You know what's really funny? I went and check for some ringtone, the price was 1.29$. Then I checked how much was the price of this same whole song. 1.29$. And this gets even better, I checked another different album, all the songs cost 0.99$. Then I checked the ringtone of a song from this album, it costs 1.29$. Way to go Apple. Are people really that stupid they'll buy ringtones which are the same price or even more expensive than the whole song? Not to mention they can do a ringtone of the bought song in Itunes itself and the way they like...This is getting ridiculous...

Actually, Apple is doing the smart thing! Not everyone knows how to create their own ringtones. I've had to create countless ringtones for friends and family because they can't be bothered with learning the "how to."

Apple is merely capitalizing on those kinds of individuals. For those that are proficient with creating ringtones whether through iTunes, Garageband or countless third party programs; Apple isn't trying to get you to buy the pre-cut ringtones.

Apple is targeting to the lazy or naieve individuals.

For example: I can change the oil in my truck for roughly $5 USD, or I can pay someone $20 USD to do it for me.

Well, I'm one of those people—naive, not lazy—who doesn't know how to create ring tones on itunes or anywhere else. So, how does one create ringtones

Are you on a Mac or PC?

If you're using a Mac, then GarageBand is the best choic in my opinion. There are lots of tutorials on the web, it's how I learned. The iTunes method, I'm not too familiar with, there is a tutorial on these forums - I didn't much into it since I like using GarageBand.

On a PC, there are a lot of free programs out there, google will net you many solutions.

I have not upgraded to 3.1 yet but does Garage Band still works for making ring tones?

I know how to change the oil in my car, but I feel that paying $20 to get my oil changed is worth it because I hate doing it.

I do, however, create my own ringtones.

It's actually in the iTunes store on the iPhone. Just hit more and it should be there as "ringtones".

I'm on 3.1. Use iTunes to make your ringtones. It doesn't get any easier than that.
