maybe the phones will have shipped with 13 already? Us 13.1 users may be out of luck for restore from backup.

Any thoughts/wisdom/opinions about installing iOS 13 vs. waiting for 13.1? I keep reading about bugs in 13.
I might consider waiting for iOS 13.1, but I've got an Apple Watch 5 arriving tomorrow, which will be running watchOS 6, and from what I read this won't work with an iPhone running iOS 12. So, my options are, upgrade my phone to iOS 13.0 now, or leave my new watch sitting in the box for a couple weeks until iOS 13.1 is released.

You should report it to the app developers when stuff is missed. Apple requires apps mark which data should be backed up over iCloud and which shouldn't. That way caches and re-downloadable content like huge game levels don't hog bandwidth and storage. If they mismark user data, then it doesn't get backed up.

That's a good point - but you know how that goes sometimes - it could be a week or two until you have reused all the apps you ported over from the other phone. Haha plus I'm lazy as all get out!

One thing I've learned, is to always switch to iTunes and create a backup of my device before upgrades or new phone setups. iCloud has gotten so much better, but it just seems to miss things...

It misses things by definition.. check the apple support page to learn about the different content backed up via iTunes vs iCloud.

Great advice. I always make a backup before upgrading iOS but I haven't been archiving them.

I know it won't take a full backup like iTunes will, and pushes apps to the phone etc. I use iCloud as my automated backup, but just iTunes for device migrations and upgrades.

Hey..

(1) Restore = (2) Clean install = (3) Install ipsw with shitf/click option method

Those 3 are all the same right?
No, clean install is the same as regular upgrade BUT it requires that you go to Settings | General | Reset | Erase All Contents and Settings, then upon restart, select Setup as New iPhone.

Those steps accomplish the same as clicking “restore” button in iTunes instead of “Update” button in iTunes. It downloads iOS newest versions, erases all contents and settings, and installs new iOS.

Then you can choose to setup as new or from backup, but both of these are performed after the fact that the clean install (restore) is already done.

Is there any verifiable benefit to starting completely from scratch with a new phone and loading some things on via iCloud vs. doing something like the iphone to iphone migration with a new phone?

I've heard something about "reloading" apps saving some space on the new os.

So to reduce safari tab refreshes, apple decided to have the tabs auto close after some time instead of adding more ram. Sweet.

How would one downgrade from 13.1 beta to 13.0 GM? I’ve already deleted the beta profile but it’s not showing the update available. And yes, I know. Wait until 13.1 but if I snag the phone in store tomorrow, I don’t want to be on a beta version.

The downside to that is that you may not be able to install older apps that aren't on the store anymore.

I'd suggest doing an OTA upgrade. My SE barfed during the itunes upgrade and I had to do a restore/upgrade, so my apps are 'waiting' and slowly downloading, which is super annoying.
