I’ll be waiting for the inevitable 18.0.1 update because everyone knows there’ll be problems with the initial release of 18, whether it’s battery drain or wifi connection problems etc.

Make an Archived Backup of Your Device on Mac

It's best practice to have a local backup of your device stored on your computer in case something goes awry, or the worst happens and installation of iOS 18 fails.
It would be far faster to do that if all iPhones weren't using the same slow USB 2.0 wired data transfer speeds as the very first iPhone released in 2007:

Given there's no Apple Intelligence for the iPhone 15, (sad, but understanding Apple: 🤑). I want that sweet RCS messaging, and the ability to place icons anywhere, and it's been a while since I had an iPhone, I will update on Day 1.

Especially on older devices, the most important thing you can do is a clean install of iOS 18.

It’s been repeatedly stated in these forums many times: if your iPhone or iPad is slow, sluggish, or having errors after an incremental update, wipe the device. Wipe it and start with a clean install, then download your apps. Do not restore from backups.

This has made a tremendous difference for many users over the years.

It's also quicker than restoring.

… and have fun spending your time with reactivating all banking apps.

I was today years old when I learned of the archive option.
It's also useful for moving device backups to an external hard drive, if you want to save some space.. just remember to backup, archive and overwrite with relative frequency...

Feel like this could be a bit of an adventure on my XR. Hey ho…we’ll see what happens.
Not going to lie my work iPhone is an 11 and I’d wish they’d drop support so I can upgrade. It’s the last device in my house that’s lightning charged at this point.
