How to have imac choose 5.0 over 2.4 ghz?

I am not sure if this is an imac or OS related question, but felt this place may be more relevant.

I just purchased a asus rtn56u router, and would like my imac to use the 5.0 ghz band. Currently, when I start up my imac, it connects to the 2.4ghz wifi band by default. Is there any way to have it detect and use the 5.0ghz band automatically?
