When I take a screenshot, I want to highlight several lines of the screenshot in the markup tools. Is there any way of doing it? I don't see a highlighter in the tool bar of either screenshot pop up or Preview.

On Windows, the highlighter is right there in the app, and I don't believe such a basic functionality doesn't exist on Mac.

Thanks, Folks.

I just checked Preview because I couldn't believe that either. Seems you're right. Screenshots are bitmapped images so it seems Preview doesn't offer the highlighting tool you would get if you opened a PDF. Pretty lame!

I guess as a not-great workaround you could select the text and leave it selected before you take the screenshot.

I never noticed that there isn't a highlighter tool in Quick View or Preview app. But, I'll second the recommendation for Shottr. It doesn't have a "text highlighter" per se, but you can draw a box around the text and have it semi-transparent (and change to a variety of colors) as seen in the screenshot below.
