How to I 'Keep' the icon when I format a disk

I have been given a new HDD, which I need to format.

I want to keep the icon files, associated with this disk (they are proprietry and look exactly the same as the drive!).

How do I get those icon files prior to formatting?

You open the GET INFO window, select the icon on the top left, press CMD+C, go to Preview, press CMD+N and then save the image in PNG format.
