I have an new Intel iMac and I would like to import video from my old tapes (VHS and old camcorders). I am confused about what is available as I saw some products from miglia and pinnacle. I also do not know how good they are. I am new to this area and any help in choosing a product would be welcome. Thanks

Here's a good How to Convert VHS to DVD/iMovie tutorial. You'll need an analog to DV convertor (bridge). Personally, I use a older Formac Studio but there are various ways and means with the newer equipment and mini-DVs out there. Good luck.

another way is to use a MiniDV cam that has pass through.

You plug in the VHS to the MiniDV via A/V cables and the MiniDV to the computer via Firewire.

When you see the VHS Footage on the MiniDV screen hit record on the computer and the capture begins.

I've always used Sony camcorders and the FORMAC Studio.

The advantage of getting a MiniDV Cam is that you can now use it to shoot new stuff...

IIRC the FORMAC was $300 or so and my MiniDV was $429.
