How to Improve Photo and Video Composition Without Cropping on iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro

Hi All,

I was trying to test this new feature yesterday night in my living room. Shot few times and tried to crop the images in the edit mode but there was no addtional data captured.

Today, I just tried outside in the street, shot twice and both pictures have the option enable in the gallery. (you can see small square icon, similar to the Live photos one whenever there is additional info in the picture). Cliked on edit and effectively I could crop and see the additional data captured by the ultra wide angle...

It seems to me that this works sometimes and sometimes not, perhaps there needs to be a minimum of light level, focus, distance, etc.. but it is an amazing feature.

Regards,
David

talkin73's approach worked for me! Just turned it on, then off, then on again.
Now it's working -- even on close up indoor shots. You do have to click the "..." and then select "Use Content Outside the Frame"

And just as I started typing this, it seems to have stopped working . . .

I don't really need to click on "..." to access the content, in the gallery itself when the image has additional content available I do see a little square with a star key on the right top corner, then just editing it and using the crop tool, I can see and expand my picture. I did not need to turn off and on, just sometimes works for me and others does not.

Why would they do that?! The average user will not know such feature exists or how to turn it on but could greatly benefit from it. Specially since the “unused” wider picture gets deleted after 30 days so unless you are taking a ton of pictures/videos at once, it wouldn’t be an issue with storage.

Edit: a word

It’s disabled by default because Apple’s new Deep Fusion computational AI only works when this setting is toggled off.
