I've tried to install the original applications CD on my new MBA. I used remote disk but got the following message: "Alert - Can not install this software on this computer". What am I doing wrong? I also tried the same CD from my MBP but got the same alert. How can I install my applications CD on my new MBA?.

Unless I'm mistaken, you shouldn't be using that disk. If you are trying to install the Applications, wouldn't you be able to get them from the App store for free since you have Lion?

If it's a 3rd party application it may only be available on CD/DVD. Not everything is available in the app store.

While you could rip the MS Office DVD image, I'd recommend first trying CD/DVD sharing as in your manual beginning on page 15: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/macbook_air_13inch_mid2011_ug.pdf

For something like Office, you ought to be able to just copy the contents of the DVD to a flash drive and install from there.

If you absolutely need to do an ISO, create it on a different system, bring it over to your MBA, and open it as described here: http://faq.oit.gatech.edu/content/how-do-i-mount-iso-file-osx -- might be a little different in Lion, I've not tried it since my MBA hasn't yet shipped.

Isn't there a way to download Office 2011 from Microsoft and activate it with your CD key?

Worth downloading the 30 day trial and seeing if you can do this.

I think if you download the trial, and type in your activation key, it should be a full version.

I did this when I set up my wife's 13" MBP. I installed the trial to get her started for school and when Office finally showed up, I just typed in the Activation code. Save the dmg for future reference on a hard drive and you don't ever really need the disc.
