Wanting to try out this beta but by the looks of these posts...I might just wait a few beta’s lol

That’s one of the reasons I’m holding back from trying the Beta. I just don’t feel like it’s a good decision from a usability stand point. I definitely think they should allow people with watches that support the feature to use it. Gimping a piece of my hardware is not cool.

Agree. The elimination of force touch actually creates a need to touch the screen more, which I personally hate. Makes me wonder what the Series 6 has in store with this software change.

I am so bored with Apple Watch. I cannot remember the last time I put mine on my wrist.
Actually tho. I bought the cellular version thinking I’d be using it for texts or calls, but the only thing I’m using Apple Watch for is health data. With having to charge it everyday at some point before I sleep half of the time it’s just dead on my hand or on the floor. Lol.

This isn’t true. You can send in your watch for a software downgrade via mail-in or depot repair. Software service for watches are free regardless of warranty status, just happens at the depot.
The article was addressing the ability for the user to downgrade, as one would the phone or Mac. Given the nature of the article and the fact that Apple states you can’t downgrade, the article was correct as written.

I will probably wait until the second beta to install but its nice to have the option this year.

I've loaded Public Beta on my iMac, my iPhone, and my Apple Watch. Then I decided to buy a new iPhone. Unfortunately, iOS 14 data transfer from the old phone to the new wouldn't occur. So I loaded the new phone manually. But then I couldn't download iOS 14 to it. Next, I took my watchOS 7 watch off my charger and discovered that it wasn't working; it wouldn't link up with my new iOS 13.6 iPhone. I finally just erased everything on my phone and did an auto data load from my OS 13.6 iPad. That went very well. I then went again to download iOS 14 to it and it loaded without a hitch. I went back to my watch and it had already made the decision to erase all and start from scratch. I then went to download the Apple Watch 7 public Beta and that went just fine. At this point, I discovered that my Apple Watch wouldn't unlock my iMac. I went to the Mac's security settings to get that working and received a message stating "Your iMac was unable to communicate with your Apple Watch". That's still an issue, but certainly no big thing.

The point being: Coronavirus stay-at-home time is perfect for loading and using these Public Betas. But if you're getting ready to return to the hectic life, I suggest you wait 'til this Fall (although knowing myself, it's not advice I would take). To me, these upgrades are worth the hassle. They make these devices a lot more interesting and certainly a lot easier to use.

or just delete the profile and wait for the next release it will shunt you back to 6.
Doesn't work like that. All Apple OS'ses upgrades to newer versions with numbers.

For example, if watchOS 6.5 is named 16E70 and the current beta is 17A40e , than it can't downgrade to any 16ish updates at all. All you can have is the 17ish numbers and the next is the watchOS 7 official release.

Please do not give any misinformation about watchOS since it is an issue that we, as iOS devs are warning others.

  1. It's not same with other betas where you can downgrade.
  2. Every Apple Store in every country doesn't have the tools (It costed me to buy another watch after talking with Apple, so trust me)
  3. You can only update, not downgrade. If you remove the beta profile on beta, you can only wait the update on September as you won't get any more updates of beta versions.
  4. You need an iOS 14 device to run it. If you find issues on your phone and reset to iOS 13, your phone won't match with your watch so your watch becomes unusable.
I might sound sketchy, but as a developer I am trying watchOS, iOS and macOS betas since 4 years and once I lost twice (this years beta and watchOS 6 beta process)

I had the same issue. I ended up unpairing and re-pairing the watch to my phone then set it up as a new watch. It installed after that.

ive given up. Well for just now.
Went to install it and it said not enough space but deleting apps and pics meant it was fine. Then it started to download. So slowly. Is it transferring to the watch as it downloads ? 9 hours it said. Apart from sleeping I don’t spend 9 hours in the house on Wi-Fi.

but I try. It ticks down. Then it says paused. To continue connect to Wi-Fi. It’s on Wi-Fi. Phone is plugged in and on Wi-Fi. Watch is on its puck. Sometimes it starts again itself. Sometimes hours later i faff switching on and off Wi-Fi. Restarting phone. Resetting watch. It starts again.

then I go out and come back in and it starts from the beginning. Finally i leave it overnight. In the morning it says it can’t install update for i forget what reason.

i start again. Get it to 5 hours to go. Then stuck on pause. For a whole day. I decide to wipe my watch and pair again. That takes an hour or two as it keeps getting stuck on setting up. Oh and it tells me that Siri will be disabled on my watch due to my choice of language on phone. Which is English. Never said that before.

overnight it seems to sort itself out so i hit update. Of course the beta profile is gone so it updates to i think 6.2.8 or something. Then i install beta profile and watch restarts. Go into phone and look for an update. It tells me it can’t find my watch. Even though my watch is working fine abd it can see it and install and delete apps and change how it looks etc.

think I’ll wait til the next beta.
