I'm trying to update my B/W G3 tower to tiger from 10.2, but I can't get it to boot into target disc mode. Any ideas?

I have a powerbook that I can read the dvd from. I tried booting the PB in target disc mode and installing with the G3, but that wouldn't work either (whenever I'd restart it would jump straight into OSX instead of starting the install process).

Can I jump straight from 10.2 to 10.4? I just (like this morning) sent my panther discs back to texas with my mom (along with my old ibook)

EDIT: Some further reading indicates that I can't start my G3 in target disc mode. I managed to get a disc image of the install DVD on the boot drive of the G3. I can mount the image and start the install process, but when prompted to restart, the computer just starts back into OSX instead of restarting into the install process. Any help

Hello

I recently moved and i bought mac os x tiger at the apple store on DVD and then i quickly moved it to my mac (eMac before i moved..) i put the whole cd in a .dmg file...some of my stuff got lost including my tiger dvd(and i wont have acess to it for like 3 weeks) so i just have a copy of the dvd in .dmg format. I have a cd-dvd drive on a eMac with 10.2. Is there a way to install it with an ipod? i have a 80gb ipod...i was trying to open the dmg file and drag it to my ipod but it kept giving me errors...is there a way? how whould i do this? i really need tiger for my project.. to install some apps......thanks ahead of time

tried to something similar with a firewire drive and tiger install a while ago. I had no success because the ext drive wouldn't boot. Starting up with the option key held down the ext drive didn't appear and using startup disc to select the ext drive didn't work either. I had used carbon copy to make a duplicate on my iMac's internal drive. The drive enclosure was a generic case I bought on eBay.
Anyone else had a firewire drive that wouldn't boot?
