yours is easy since there is no unlock for that baseband the only I4 baseband that is unlockable via ultrasn0w is 1.59.00 the only other thing is gevey sim (google it) which when installed allowed you to unlock up to 5.0. . if your still confused do the same thing with your friends. what firmware is it modem firmware version if your really not sure pop the sim out this is a gevey sim

one last thing, will i be able to update via itunes to ios5.0.1 when my current is a jailbroekn 4.2.1??

You may not be able to upgrade to iOS 5 if you have a newer 3GS as it will fry your antenna, so be cautious. I would determine that first.
 
Im just trying to jailbreak it.

so far, iv updated the software to 5.0.1 on itunes, the problem is its already syncing and its restoring my phone with all my apps etc.

Iv not jailbroken it yet. Do i still jailbreak it the same way of iclarified website??? basically all my apps are being transferred back onto the phone. Can i just jailbreak safely once its done or is it too late??

I'm confused by your question. You can jailbreak it at any point. Just download and run redsn0w. Look at the guide in my signature.

just one thing tho, im not sure if iv done it all correctly , because when i press say the home key afer the phone is screenlocked, it just has the slide function to screenunlock (like the old 4.2.1 version), it doesnt have the camera button on the front screen.

But when i was restoring the phone apps on my laptop, the new camera feature was there on and off on the screen?

Double click the home button.

So what IOS can i upgrade to?that won't cause any harm on my iphone 3gs?
