How to know if a contact has apple watch

Hey guys, I'm wondering how to know if any of my contacts have apple watch so I can send sketches. Is it possible without add them as a friend?
 
Not that I know of. Once you add them and look on the watch you will have the option for sending sketches.

don't think so. the only way to be sure is to add them as a contact and see if the "digital touch" option shows up.
