I'm a second year Engineering student, did a bit of C++ in my course and I want to learn Swift.

Where should I start? Any ideas? The amount of tutorials I found online is not so promising.

Yes, get the 2 books that Apple has published. Then there are some blogs, including an official Apple blog.

I also started with a C++ background and did (am doing) the following:
    - Read Apple's book
    - Started solving Project Euler problems with Swift as first practice: https://projecteuler.net
    - Figured out what I'd like to do for an App and started to code that

To keep myself motivated in the beginning I also wrote some blog stuff: http://swift.svbtle.com

    Good luck!

Best tutorials so far are all the WWDC videos introducing, using, and debugging with Swift.

thanks guys! But at the moment I've decided not to dwell on swift yet, because python has a much wider application (data etc) so I probably will work on that in the new academic year.

The Apple iBooks are great, as subsonix said.

    The Swift Programming Language: https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/swift-programming-language/id881256329?mt=11

Using Swift with Cocoa and Objective-C: https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/swift-programming-language/id881256329?mt=11

Daniel Steinberg has also published one, called A Swift Kickstart: https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/a-swift-kickstart/id891801923?mt=11

And if you're looking for a tutorial you can follow along with, you can check out the video of the Beginning Swift workshop I put on last week:
