Does anyone know how to get Spotlight to index and allow you to search for the standard Unix configuration files? I also notice that I can no longer search for .plist files as I could when I was running Tiger which is annoying.

Is there any way to disable 'safe mode' which seems to have been introduced in Leopard?

When you do a spotlight search hit the + button then choose Other…

Now type in system in the search field that pops up. Select that and set it to include.

It will now search system files.
