I bought a G-drive mobile with Thunderbolt, opened it, and exchanged the spinning disk for a Crucial M550 1 TB SSD. Works great.

The G-drive enclosure is very well engineered and shielded. Making the swap was more difficult than I expected (more complex disassembly). I'm very impressed with the enclosure's engineering.

I wouldn't have done this except that I had the Crucial SSD on hand, from another machine. Of course I voided the warranty and if you do this, so will you, but in the end I had a bus-powered T-bolt SSD, which is what I wanted.

What kind of speeds do you get with this enclosure? Above 450 mb/s?

Thanks

Daniel

Just now, with BlackMagic, I got 350 write and 380 read.

I have the identical SSD in an OWC 4 bay TB enclosure, and that one benchmarks the same.

Using AJA with 1920x1080 10 bit, it's only slightly different (around 360 W 380 R) and doesn't change much with file size, although the one in the OWC enclosure comes in closer to 350 W 360 R.

Same ballpark, for sure.

I'm on a retina iMac with 1 TB SSD. Black Magic benches the internal at a bit over 700 for W and R both. AJA is a few points off.
