I would rather see what is in the update before the apps do it automatically. I see the option to turn off automatic updates, but where do I go to check and update them manually?

Ahh, I guess automatic updates are staying on then haha
I've found the best way is to leave automatic updates on and occasionally check the 'Recently Updated' category in the 'Purchased Apps' section of the ATV AppStore -- a convenient list of what's been updated with the version number and changes.
