Is it possible to: turn on iCloud Photo Library, open one library, let that library upload entirely, quit, open your other library, let that upload.

At this point wouldn't all photos now be in iCloud, and you can delete/let stuff download however you want?

Or do I remember seeing something about how only 1 library can use iCloud at a time?

Yes I was thinking this also.

I used it in beta and only recently added it to my iMac which has my main Aperture Library. One day I want to Merge Aperture but I am not ready yet because I have to sort it a bit first.

I have not tried yet but here is direct quote from the Photos Help

"You can switch to another library and designate it as the System Photo Library. If you designate a new System Photo Library, you must turn on iCloud services in Photos preferences again. When you turn on iCloud Photo Library after designating a new System Photo Library, the photos stored in iCloud are merged with those in the new System Photo Library. Once the content from the new System Photo Library is uploaded to iCloud, the libraries cannot be unmerged, so it’s a good idea to consider carefully before changing your System Photo Library."

Sharing Photos

When sharing photos to the internet, the Title/Description is not uploaded on FB/Flickr; which means all the captions you do for your photos will not be uploaded...

Loaded up Photos after the 10.10.3 update, migrated my Aperture library, fiddled around in Photos for 10 minutes, quit and deleted the Photos library to get my 40 GB back…

That thing is a far cry from being a feasible alternative to Aperture for me.

deleted pictures from iphoto show up again in Photos

More than 1500 pictures that were deleted in iphoto (the trash in iphoto was emptied) do show up in Photo which I installed today together with Yosemite.

I did this and works awesome! but I still see the "iPhoto" app on my mac and its 9gigs! can I delete it if all my pictures are on "Pictures"?

thank you for the help!:apple:

What does it do with the photos for a library that sits on an external device? I have the better part of a terabyte of photos in my iPhoto library on an external RAID array. The last thing I want it to do is to try to move all of that to an internal drive. In other words, will a migration leave the photos where they are?
Have you gone through with it? I just got a new iMac, I wanted the opposite- I wanted the iPhoto Library on the external USB to transfer onto the new internal as a "clean" Photos library. It didn't seem to be moving it, so I cancelled. (now I have a rollback) I'm currently transferring the whole 430GB iPhoto Library to the internal, then I'll start the migration. I was searching for the cleanest way for Photos to "own" the library, rather than just "looking at" the old iPhoto files. I haven't found a good way to do this *or if it's really necessary*. I have iPhoto Library Manager & it's replacement PowerPhotos, but neither seem to have a "clean" method. I used iPLM on my old Mac mini to rebuild the iPhoto Library (took 5 days) Then I did a duplicate hunt (1 more day to check each one), while helped a lot; things are speedier, and uploading to Amazon Cloud Drive is working properly now. So, I guess we'll see how it all works sometime tomorrow. (Despite all the known shortfalls of Photos, I need speedy browsing over advanced features)

I am still in a "bit of a muddle" with all of this surely Appple have not left non techies like me without a proper transfer path & instructions. All my iphoto library is on an external drive & my internal drive does not have enough space. I am very reluctant to make the move in case i lose my library.

I recently had Yosemite installed and I have just discovered iphoto has been replaced with photos. I hate it. And it removes certain tools which is not acceptable. It is fine if Apple wants to simplify the app for some people, but at least include everything as an option for those that want more. Isn't there some sort of protest we can make?
