Do not use any external hard drive! I did that and lost 14 years of my life! They don’t last forever and one day will suddenly burn out and become corrupted. Yes, in these days online storage is actually more safe.

Im using iCloud, I hope this is a secure and safe way to store images. I just want to copy my files to a hard drive for some extra peace of mind :)

What @Slartibart said. With the SSD connected and visible in the Files.app, you can select your photos in Photos.app and select Share -> Save to Files and then select your SSD, boom. iOS isn‘t that good with large batches of files, so if it fails on the first try, you might try to copy not all 3000 in one go.

For a hassle-free experience just borrow someone’s computer - it will go much smoother this way.

3000 photos @ 3+ Mb on average each give you at least 9 Gb of data to transfer. It will be a nightmare doing it on the phone itself, with an extra risk of data corruption in the process.

That is true, feels a bit more safe. Thanks :)
