So I just randomly got this idea would would like to hear opinions on the subject. Multitasking for iOS (specifically iPhone but could apply to iPad), I think is very nice, but can be improved. Instead of the bottom only coming up the size of one row of apps, why not make it come up two or three rows? When you are in multitasking mode, the rest of the screen isn't doing anything, why not use the space? So, you have 8 apps per page instead of 4. The music control page could also have volume control instead of having to swipe again. If you swipe past the music/volume control section instead of just the volume control, you could have app-like icon switches (red if off and green if on) for wi-fi, blue-tooth and cell data and some fourth thing that I can't think of at the moment (maybe a kill-all app button?) and a brightness slider above or below those.

If I had any skill with image editing software I would make a mock-up to show you guys. If any of you are up to it, it would be cool to see.

Anywho, what are your guys thoughts an opinions?

I had a suggestion, then I realised that WebOS' cards is basically the same idea (showing preview of other apps).

My home button sucks, so I almost never use it cos it's a lottery whether it registers as 1 press, 2 presses or none. I would actually love it if I could replace the widget at the top of the notification centre with the task switcher.

I hear of people with messed up home buttons, but of me and the people I work with (over 50 of which have an iPhone or iPod touch) I have yet to see ANY problem with a home button. I feel like I want to say your problem is a rare case. But who knows, my situation may be lucky?

Sorry, but I've been using iOS for about a month, but I see no need to multitask with more than four apps. I came from 2 years on a WebOS Pre and pretty much the only time I was multitasking was if I was waiting for a website to load I'd hop over to texting or maybe have some music playing in the background while reading up on some stuff. I may have Maps opened along with a web browser to search for stuff, but that's it.

Maybe I'm missing something here. I think the only time I've had to go to the 5th or 6th app on the multitasking screen is when I first got my iPhone and was trying all the different apps and stuff and then had to go back to read some email or something.

As a heavy muktitasker, WebOS user, Android user, and all around nerd/Apple lover. . . . I think your idea makes sense. Especially the switch icons. Would love to be able to turn off WiFi, BT, etc. with a press, instead of going through system prefs.

You're right, it'd be one thing if the other screen area was being used for something, but it's totally not.

P.S. love the kill all apps idea too.

in other words you want to jailbreak your phone because pretty much everything you're asking for is available as jailbroken tweaks.

I personally don't see an issue with it at the moment :p.

No. I actually want to have this part of the actual OS. And I have never seen any jailbreak tweaks that can kill all of the apps that are multitasking or be able to show 8 at a time. There is one that I know of that has the switches which is nice, but I want it to integrate nicely with everything and be a smooth, not fragmented experience.

EDIT: That was not meant to sound as mean as it did. Didn't mean for any negative tones to be implied.
