How to Only SYNC CONTACTS

Guys I wanted to update my iPhone to the new firmware 3.1.3
and wanted to set up a new phone
is there any way I can only sync contacts
and if possible
texts messages only
nothing else
Does any 1 knows how to do it
Help will be appreciated

You could setup your contacts in google gmail. and then on the phone sync with exchange. it will let you select just contacts. have no clue about text messages though.

Restoring from a back-up will sync back everything and there is no way around that.

You could set up as new and select to sync Contacts only, but that will not bring back your old texts.
