Dear all,

As titled. How can this be done?
I am planning to use iPhone X as a near-fresh device, without any previous settings/apps etc., but only retraining my old photos.

I have tried Photo's "transfer all photos to Mac", but it doesn't transfer albums for some odd reason.
I also don't want to upload all photos to iCloud...

Are there any alternatives? Or the best way is to just do a regular backup, and "Reset all settings" when I get the new device?

Thanks!

Best bet is to back up your camera roll to google photos or another 3rd party app and then simply download them again to the phone once you are all setup!

This is true. I don’t think the album structure would carry through. It would be quite a task to create albums again. How many pictures are you talking about?

9805 photos in the camera roll! hahaha
Seriously think Apple is a bit behind for this.

I don't know of any third party app that maintains album structure. I have a Synology NAS and it backs up all my photos and even though they are in albums when backed up they are raw photos. You could use the iCloud login via Safari and just download each album individually and then move them to either an external drive or some third party app like Amazon photo. Then you can control which ones to put back on.

Apple is so behind!! It's a pain to transfer photos between devices..and confusing, and time consuming...Why not add a slot for removable media, so photos can be stored there and transferred between devices? I only use iPhone because I love iOS.. Otherwise I would've switched to Android...
