How to open the aluminum iMac?

    The glass is actually held on by magnets, once you remove the glass using a handled-suction cup, you will see the screws that hold the entire enclosure together

    Oh, and BTW, I would never recommend you do this yourself, if you need to install something or whatever your reasons are for wanting to open it up, you better take it to an Apple store, or you risk voiding the precious warranty

    Unfortunately Apple Store does not do upgrades. I am surprised they don't do that, but I guess the warranty issue is murky if you bring in your own parts.

    From what I read, the problem for some people is dust. You need a very clean room with no air movement to prevent any dust from getting between the glass and the LCD. (Someone mentioned door closed, windows closed, and minimal movement for 30? minutes so dusts settle down).

    For the at home DIY'er, a little steam from a hot shower will also remove a lot of dust from the air ;)

    Just make sure it is not still humid in the room when you start opening everything up!
